The Belize Canoe Association - or Bz Canoe - was founded in 2001 by enthusiastic paddle sports supporters Luis Garcia, Elvin Penner and Julian and Ceasar Sherrard. The canoe association strives to unite paddlers and develop guidelines to guide canoeing in Belize. Between 2008-2012 races were organized under the Canoe Association by Joe Fuzy, John Searle and Jerry Wilkin. In 2012 Rick Salazar spearheaded formalizing a revitalized association and a new board was elected in 2013. Bz Canoe has achieved many milestones in the 12 years since it was founded and hopes to one day have paddlers participate in the Olympics and sanction canoe races in Belize.
